w3c goes south
...so to speak. The Australian W3C office has moved to the CSIRO in Canberra. I'm slightly ashamed to admit that the office used to be at the DSTC in Brisbane and I'd forgotten.
- CSIRO to help develop web standards. 07/10/2005. ABC News Online:
The CSIRO has won a bid to play a central role in setting standards for the World Wide Web.
Really? A central role? Here's me thinking it was just hosting a W3C office ;) Sounds like someone at the Abie forgot to remove some adjectives from a press release (Journo joke: easiest way to write a very short article? Remove the superlatives from the press release). - Archive of W3C News in 2005 | W3C Office Opens in Australia. That's a really poor headline - it implies there hasn't been an office until now.

Hopefully "W3C Australian Office moves to CSIRO" is a more acceptable headline.
Interesting, although the ABC suffered amnesia, the CSIRO Press Release made it quite clear that DSTC had previously run the Australian W3C office.
Heheh, absolutely; we should always write accurate heading text - right? :) I do admit I'm hyper-critical of Australian journalism. It bothers me that standards can slip so easily on the web, where you can just change it later (the transience is similar to TV news, which has similar quality control problems).
Anyway, I'll be interested to see what comes of the office move.
I agree wholeheartedly with your web journalism comments. It's something that also irks me endlessly.
Like you, I'll also be interested to see what comes of the W3C Office move; hopefully big things! :-)
